When the Mississippi Froze at New Orleans

It happened in the winter of 1783-1784 when the last eruption of an Icelandic volcano erupted, sending smoke and ash over Europe and parts of North America. It was one of the causes of the disruption in Europe that brought about the French Revolution in 1789.
